Recent research offers encouraging news for runners. Studies, including one surveying nearly 4,000 marathon participants, show that running does not contribute to joint degeneration. The survey found no connection between cumulative running history and the risk of arthritis. The primary risk factors for hip and knee arthritis were found to be age, previous injury or surgery, and family history (Hartwell, 2023).

Studies further support the benefits of a well-rounded exercise regimen. For example, injury-prevention programs have been shown to reduce the risk of knee, ankle, and shoulder injuries (Aynollah, 2024). Additionally, multi-component programs involving strength training, balance, mobility, and aerobic exercises have been proven to lower the risk of falls and improve overall physical function (Sadaqa, 2023).
